Introduction
The Master of
Divinity is a three year graduate degree accredited
with the Australian College of Theology (ACT). It is
intended for students who hold a non-theological
undergraduate degree from an Australian university
(or equivalent) and who wish to prepare for
full-time ministry in Australia or overseas.
The study of the
Old and New Testaments comprises approximately half
of the program. Students learn at least one biblical
language and study the Old or New Testament in that
language. The remaining half of the degree includes
a broad introduction to Church History and Theology,
together with elective subjects in the Pastoral and
Mission areas. An 8,000 word project is also
required in the final semester of study. This is
undertaken in the subject area of the student's
choice.
The
structure of the degree makes it suitable for those
entering any kind of full-time ministry within
Australia or in a mission environment overseas. It
also provides an accredited pathway to further study
in either theology or ministry.

Course Outline
The Master of
Divinity requires 96 credit points (cp) for
completion and is usually completed in three years
full time or up to nine years part time. We
strongly recommend that there be a full time
component in each student's course of study. All
Master of Divinity subjects are four credit points
and semester length. The optional exit
project which is eight credit points.
Students
may choose Biblical Hebrew (LA503A & B) in second year instead of
Introduction to Biblical Hebrew (C294). This creates the possibility of
completing third year Old Testament study in Hebrew.
Full time students
in this course study the Master of Divinity and the
SMBC Certificate in Biblical Studies concurrently.
There are nine core subjects in the Certificate in
Biblical Studies and one optional elective subject.
Satisfactory participation in College community life
is also a requirement for graduation with the
Certificate in Biblical Studies.
