The
Diploma of
Theology is a two year course accredited with
the Australian College of Theology. It aims to
provide a broad understanding of the Bible and
theology and includes a wide selection of pastoral
and mission subjects.
The
purpose of the Diploma is to prepare students for
general gospel ministry in their local environment
or in cross cultural settings in Australia or
overseas. Graduates
work in a wide variety of ministries, including
pastoral, youth, children's, prison, church
planting, evangelism, missions, and 'tentmaking'.
Generally
the Higher School Certificate (HSC), or equivalent,
is a prerequisite for entry into this program.
However, where an applicant has not completed the
HSC, mature age entry will be favourably considered.
The
Diploma of Theology requires the completion of 64
credit points and can be studied on a part time
basis with no maximum time limit. However, we
strongly recommend a full time component in each
student's course of study. All Diploma subjects
are semester length and worth four credit points
(except for PC249A, B, C and D, Supervised Experience Based Learning subjects, which are worth 1 creadit point).
Full
time students study the Diploma of Theology and the
SMBC Certificate in Biblical Studies concurrently over two years. To
qualify for the Certificate in Biblical Studies,
full time students complete 14 core subjects and two
elective subjects, as well as their Diploma of Theology subjects. Satisfactory participation in
College community life is also a requirement for
graduation Subject descriptions are contained in the
Appendix.
