| Application
Process
There
is no closing date for applications.
However, overseas applications should
be submitted as early as possible
since the process in obtaining a
student visa may take a long time.
Application forms are available, upon
request, from the College
Office.
Information
about obtaining a student visa is
available from the Australian
Department of Immigration and
Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs.
Their website is www.dimia.gov.au.
Important
Note
Some
of the information given to Sydney
Missionary and Bible College by
overseas applicants may be made
available to Commonwealth and State
Agencies and the Fund Manager of the
Education Services for Overseas
Students (ESOS) Assurance Fund,
pursuant to obligations under the ESOS
Act 2000 and the National Code.
Furthermore, Sydney Missionary and
Bible College is required, under s19
of the ESOS Act 2000, to notify the
Department of Immigration and
Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA)
about certain changes to the
student's enrolment and any breach
by the student of a student visa
condition relating to attendance or
satisfactory academic performance.
Fees
and Refunds
A
fee schedule is available from the
College Office. Please note that no
scholarships are offered and that
residential accommodation cannot be
guaranteed.
If
an overseas student withdraws from a
course before the end of the course, a
refund of fees paid may be given if
the student has a serious illness,
serious family problems or other
unexpected serious issues affecting
studies. The SMBC refund policy is
available from the College Office. The
$250.00 application fee, paid when a
student lodges their application for
admission to College, is not
refunded.
To
apply for a refund of course fees, a
student must speak or write to the
General Manager before leaving or as
soon as possible afterwards. If a
student applies for a refund and meets
the conditions above, the refund will
be paid within two weeks of the
application for the refund.
If
a student would like assistance
outside the College to help solve a
disagreement, the College can provide
information to contact a mediator. The
refund policy, including seeking help
from a mediator, does not remove the
right of the student to take further
action under Australia's consumer
protection laws

Overseas
Student Health Cover
The
Australian Government requires that
all overseas students have acceptable
health insurance, for themselves and
members of their family who accompany
them to Australia, through Overseas
Student Health Cover (OSHC). SMBC can
assist students with their OSHC
arrangements. Details regarding OHSC
are available from www.medibank.com.au.
Attendance
and Expectations
To
meet the requirements of the
Department of Immigration and
Multicultural and Indigenous Affairs (DIMIA),
students must attend all classes and
supervised independent learning. The
College is obliged to report to DIMIA
any student whose attendance or
academic progress is not satisfactory.
Furthermore,
we expect students to make study a
high priority and, therefore, we
suggest that if students are permitted
by the government to be employed, they
should not do more than eight to ten
hours per week of church or secular
work. The College as a Christian community also requires students to
participate in the life of this
community, that is, in its chapel
services, prayer times, lunch-time
meals and fellowship group activities.
