Sydney
Missionary and Bible College (SMBC)
is the oldest interdenominational
Bible college in Australia and
enjoys a reputation for
sound biblical and theological education. The
primary concern of the College is to teach the
Bible, the Word of God, so students may grow in
their knowledge of and love for our Saviour Jesus
Christ. A key focus of the College is to train
people for gospel ministry within multicultural
Australia or overseas in a missionary context.
The
college is held in a high regard by
the Christian community. It's purpose is:
Bible
Centred:
The
curriculum is centred by the Bible,
since effective ministry requires a
knowledge of God through study,
consideration, and obedience to the
Scriptures.
Interdenominational
in Character:
Students,
faculty and board members represent
various denominational allegiances,
and although lecturing staff
inevitably reflect their own position,
they endeavour to encourage
mutual understanding and respect for
differing denominational viewpoints;
Cross
Culturally Oriented:this is a missionary training college focused on the
needs of the whole world, with missiologists on
the faculty to prepare students for ministry
across cultural boundaries;
Concerned
for the Heart as well as the Head:
It
is a concern of faculty that in
addition to a knowledge of doctrine,
students enjoy a conscious, dynamic
relationship with God and with His
people;
Our
goals for our students are clear.
They
will be gospel focused. The
whole of scripture focuses on the
gospel of Jesus Christ. Graduates will
have been introduced to the 'big
picture' and preach Christ as much
from Ecclesiastes as from the Gospel
of John.
They
will be people of bold conviction.
To know Christ and His gospel is to
have a sense of certainty of the
truth. The Spirit we have received is
not one of uncertainty but of power.
They
will be people who have a heart for
mission. God loves the whole
world. Graduates will have a vision
for evangelism not limited by national
or denominational boundaries.
They
will be people of warmth and love.
To love Christ is to love His people.
Having received the 'big picture'
graduates will be flexible about all
matters of indifference in which
Christians can disagree, holding
varying positions and yet being in
fellowship together. (Therefore, they
will be good members of a
missionary/ministry team, not people
of pedantic angularity.)
They
will be fired by a zeal for God's
honour. The College motto 'for the
sake of my holy name' will be their
all consuming motivation.
These
are the fruits of studying God's word,
of being with Jesus, and, in
dependence on His grace, what Sydney
Missionary and Bible College
proclaims.
